The company traces its legacy back to 1885 when the Grandfather of our Managing Director and father of our late Chairman, Khan Bahadur Waliur Rahman ventured into the tea business in India. He was the pioneer among Indians in the tea business and subsequently came to be known as the “Tea Magnate of Jalpaiguri”. Our Founder Chairman Late Mr. Sayeedur Rahman was the Founder Chairman of W. Rahman Jute Mills Ltd the first Bengali onwed Jute mill in Bangladesh in 1962. It is still the largest private jute mill in Bangladesh located in Puranbazar, Chandpur. Our Managing Director, Barrister Mahmudur Rahman, a Bar – at – Law from Middle Temple, London was a student politician in England and was the President of the Pakistan Students Federation in Great Britain in 1962. He was also a former Executive Committee Member of the Pakistan Jute Mills Association (later BJMA) and Pakistan Tea Association (later BTA) Our original company Rahman & Company (Pvt.) Ltd established in 1960 was the holding company and managing agent of W. Rahman Jute Mills Ltd. In 1968, our Managing Director established (as a partnership) our engineering business focusing on vertical transportation (lifts) , power distribution & generation systems (substations, generators), which later in 1978 was incorporated as a private limited company as Rahman & Company Bangladesh Ltd. It is generally known to be the pioneer and the 1 st elevator services business in Bangladesh in operation since 1968. The company is currently run by the 3 rd generation of the Rahman family.
